Early Renaissance · Italian · 1415–1492
Piero della Francesca was one of the great masters of the Early Renaissance, known for his serene, mathematically precise figures and his innovative use of perspective and light. He worked primarily in central Italy — Arezzo, Borgo Sansepolcro, and Urbino. The fresco cycle The Legend of the True Cross in the Basilica of San Francesco, Arezzo, is considered his greatest achievement.
