Henri Matisse

Matisse led Fauvism — the first avant-garde movement of the 20th century — and remained one of the defining figures of modern art for six decades. He worked in Paris, Morocco, and the south of France, and in his final years, when illness prevented him from painting, produced his celebrated paper cut-outs.
